Kanikapila is a Hawaiian word that roughly translates to “play music together”. It refers to a Hawaiian style of jam session or musical gathering where musicians come together to play music in an informal and often impromptu setting.

Traditionally, Kanikapila involved playing ukuleles, guitars, and other stringed instruments, and often featured Hawaiian music and hula dancing. However, the practice has evolved to include other genres of music as well.

In a Kanikapila, musicians typically sit in a circle and take turns playing songs and improvising. It’s a great way for musicians to practice their skills, learn new songs, and connect with others who share their love of music.

Today, Kanikapila is not limited to Hawaii and has become popular around the world, particularly in places with strong connections to Hawaiian culture.

Kanikapila is pronounced “Kah knee kah pe La”.
